A View From the Porch (March 4, 2015)

It’s raining this morning and a few vestiges of snow remain. AND another storm is coming.  Rain, sleet and finally snow, maybe lots of snow.  While reporting of the weather has gotten much better, we can never entirely predict the weather.  We need to prepare and we can expect to be surprised.

So it is with our guests at St. Agnes’ House.  Mary arrived this week, a short woman with black hair streaked with gray pulled back and under a lavender knit hat.  She and her friend, Jean, had gone to the store.  They’d barely started to shop, when they received a call that Mary’s house was on fire!  A loved one living in the home suffered burns and smoke inhalation and ended up in UK hospital.

Mary, with just the clothes she had on, arrived with Jean to stay at St. Agnes’ House.

In an instant, Mary’s life changed.  Her dog was killed in the fire.  Her loved one is critically injured.  Family events captured in photos are gone.  Household items passed down through the family are gone.  She is grateful to be alive, for sure, and her life is changed.

So as the weather changes today and defies most predictions, pray for those staying at St. Agnes’ House, going back and forth to the hospital, whose lives are changed forever.

Enjoy this view from the porch!

Love, Rebecca+
